Does anybody proofread job postings before posting them?

This morning on the jobs board I saw the following posting:

09:03 Multiple pairs Database Expansion Transcribers and Teachers

Ok, fair enough. Multiple pairs, there should be something there to look at. But under the language listing, it listed five languages only, no pairs, of which I use three, and one more with which I could get back up to speed shortly if I had to do so. The yellow block at the head of the page contained a notice that said I was not qualified to quo... See more

Ok, fair enough. Multiple pairs, there should be something there to look at. But under the language listing, it listed five languages only, no pairs, of which I use three, and one more with which I could get back up to speed shortly if I had to do so. The yellow block at the head of the page contained a notice that said I was not qualified to quote on it because I didn't have any of the language pairs, so there is no contact information for clarification.

That was a waste of screen space. Did anyone else run into this? ▲ Collapse

These are monolingual jobs Aug 2, 2013

I agree in principle that there are so many errors in job postings that it's often difficult to understand what's going on.

However, I imagine this one is looking only for those of us who offer the 'monolingual pair' (if that makes any sense). I have EN>EN as my main language 'pair', and I didn't see the message you see. I'm not sure it was a wise restriction to make, but still, I suspect it was done intentionally to get monolingual specialists.

There was a recent job in English-Russian pair placed by a Chinese agency. The entire job description was written in the Chinese language. As you said, waste of screen space AND our time, too.

That's interesting. It never would have occurred to me. Perhaps I should add that myself. Thank you.
