No, I didn't Feb 19

I was rather keen on them at the beginning and took part in several Proz translation contests between 2008 and 2014. By then, I considered these contests both entertaining and challenging, but after a while, I felt that they were very poorly designed. One of the flaws is that each competitor is allowed to judge the other competitors. Are we really so impartial to be fair to other people’s entries? Then, to top it up, there was an infamous one where it took several years to announce the winners... See more

One of the flaws is that each competitor is allowed to judge the other competitors. Are we really so impartial to be fair to other people’s entries? Then, to top it up, there was an infamous one where it took several years to announce the winners. I suppose the contest has become victim of its own initial success. I can only imagine the difficulty of running a contest for all possible language pairs, but as an active paying member I am entitled to expect from the organizers a more caring, cooperative and respectful attitude towards those who made these contests possible instead of a deafening silence...Collapse

Yes but will never again as long as rules are not transparent Feb 19

I submitted entries in different language pairs (6 or 7), and various of them were the ones with the most points in that pair.
But ProZ chooses the winners based on completely deliberate and non-transparent rules, and not on the number of points the entries get - as stated in their rules. And this is only one of the issues with these contests.
This has been discussed for quite some time, but as you'll often see with ProZ

No, I didn't Feb 19

I took part once, some years ago, but the texts are so boring that I lost interest.

Wasted time participating in one Feb 19

In theory a good way to showcase one's skills - and reward translators who excel. I took part in one contest but a winner was never announced although voting had completed. No idea why and nothing was communicated about it. Hope for this to be resolved to respect people's time and restore faith in a good idea.
