No tambien... Feb 20, 2011

I do not prefer to enter it. Because some outsourcers use it for...

Some projects would be very difficult...

If I enter my rates:

Maybe such e-mails comes from outsourcer(s)??

Yes Feb 20, 2011

but only as reference. I always negotiate my rates direct with the respective customers and have never had a problem with this yet.

Yes, but Feb 20, 2011

... like the Pirate Code in the movie, they are "more like guidelines"... and I haven't updated them... ever.

Yes, but Feb 20, 2011

seems to me that not many people pay attention and I often get job offers which are way below my set rate (a bit OT, but this issue applies to my availability calendar too).

Yes, but... Feb 20, 2011

I have entered them, but they are invisible.

This way I can negotiate them on an individual basis with the end client and/or the agency.

Whether or not I accept jobs which rate is below mine depends on the kind of job, the "known/unknown" outsourcer, the amount of work and further jobs. This, of course, excludes NPOs.

Happy Sunday!

Yes, I do Feb 20, 2011

And I get jobs based on that.

I really don't understand the issue of entering rates and making them invisible. If you put effort in noting down your rates, but nobody can see it, then why bothering???

I was concerned with being held to one rate for difficult jobs so I entered in a range. My established clients don't mind if I give them a discount for prompt payment and I have no problem saying that I will need to charge a surcharge of X for Y extra service, as applicable.

Enter a starting rate Feb 20, 2011

I think mine says "My rates start at x EUR" or something like that, and then explains that jobs that require more research or are more specialised will be charged at a higher rate. I've found that this tends to (but not always!) weed out the peanuts-payers.

@Jenn Feb 20, 2011

Hi Jenn,

Why not? Good idea. But i think most outsourcers will be to try to dictate at the bottom of the price range (especially some non-American outsourcers!)

Best wishes from Anatolia

This way, they are taken into account for the Proz rates calculator.

Getting job offers by publishing (extremely) low rates Feb 20, 2011

I've also entered my rates so that they are available for the rates calculator but they are not visible.

Why? Because I don't think that price should be the first factor taken into consideration. I've seen people publish rates of USD0.02-0.04 and I'm sure they're getting all sorts of offers, but not of the kind that would be of interest to me.

"Yes but hidden" should be split... Feb 21, 2011

...into "Yes but visible only to outsourcers" and "Yes but visible to none", as reflecting the facility to do so in our Profiles.
