Подскажите, как лучше перевести термин "футшток"?

Цифры на марке [часовни Даниловского монастыря] означают следующее: 1877 – это, конечно, год установки; 2210 – порядковый номер знака; 7.77 – это самое интересное, это высота прорези в саженях относительно ***футштока***, установленного на урезе Москвы-реки против Даниловского монастыря.

river gauge

i think here it might be just a river gauge (no tide in Moscow), such being easier to visualize; the idea of it being split into feet is rather technical and not of essence here, imho

It would be nice to somehow keep the good old Fußstock in, though

футшток is the general name for this piece of equipment in this context, and so is "river gauge"
