Подскажите, как лучше перевести термин "футшток"?

i think here it might be just a river gauge (no tide in Moscow), such being easier to visualize; the idea of it being split into feet is rather technical and not of essence here, imho
It would be nice to somehow keep the good old Fußstock in, though
