Why hiring a “native translator” is not enough

Specialized terminology is a learned skill, not native intuition;

Highlights of my two decades on the road!
- I
started my career back in 1981.
- I
have full command of many translation tools (such as MemoQ, Trados and
Wordfast) in order to easily handle the different file formats as well as to
maintain consistency by leveraging translation memories and glossaries.
- My
decision to become a full-time translator was influenced by my extensive
experience as an English teacher.
- I
pursued Brazilian Portuguese and English studies in UFRN – Federal University
of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil.
- I
only translate into Brazilian Portuguese and/or English. However, I adapt
European Portuguese documents to Brazilian Portuguese.
- My
translation work covers multiple fields.
Quality Assurance
I
follow a highly strict proofreading process, which I have designed after years
focused on this high-quality work:
1) During
translation: I fully review my translation by comparing it to the original text (to
make sure nothing is skipped or left behind).
2) On screen: After spellcheck, I listen to
the translated text while reading its original back and forth using an audio
software application (to avoid typos).
3) In print: Last but not least, I revise
everything once again. This is when I exercise more creativity while using with
the good old Pen & Paper duo.
4) Peer review: Although I take confidentiality
agreements very seriously, if you need and approve it, I can have my
translation work edited by a fellow seasoned colleague in Brazil, Europe (Portugal).
