hub

From the context I think the term needed here is "hub."

I do not know whether more context for each example would help, but the word узел is being applied to three different economic sectors each of have slightly different usage.

Carapace Hub

The highly configurable Carapace Hub gives your business the communications interfaces it needs to take full advantage of the growth in Internet and other communications technologies.

Through integration with your existing systems, the Carapace Hub removes those communications barriers between your company and your customers, suppliers or sales force.

That said, even in telecommnications \"Hub\" has multiple meanings
--a specific piece of equipment.

--a more generlaized concept equivalent in the first example to something like \"Special Cervices Communication Center / Communications hub\"

The Second example \"Уссурийский узел электрической связи\" suggests part of the electrical power distribution network. Offhand I would use \"hub\" or \"center/ centre\" interchangeably in the second usage above and would render it in English as the Ussuria (pls correct place name) Electrical Distribution (связи) Center / Electrical Hub. But I could imagine context that would persuade me to translate узел as \"node\" as listed above.

The last usage, Регистрация \"Областного транспортного узла,\" I read first off as \"Creation of a Regional / Oblast-wide Transportation Hub / Center.\" Here I almost certainly would not use \"node\" since one hopes an entire Oblast is served by enough forms of transportation to have more than one transport node.

agree Olga V : Both "hub" and "center" can be used while talking of communications, but "transportation" should be used with "junction" or "node".

Thank you. Sure, "junction" seems possible, but I would want to be careful about context

agree asknine : there is no universal term that would cover all applications... depending on the application, "узел" can be translated as exchange, interexchange, central office, hub, center, etc, etc...
