Но может быть отдельные профессионалы (причём не обязательно из солнечных республик) как раз-таки заинтересованы в том, чтобы overpromise, и банальная разработка и поддержка показались включающими в себя и маркетинг. Тут уже волшебные слова про boost, раздачу слонов и прочие вкусные обещания - самое то :^)

Bullshit. Развиваем ≠ Следим за серверами, вносим правки и улучшения. It is an enumeration of activities not the definition of term. Adding new features means pure development, it has nothing to do with развитие. The original intent of author's phrase was to make site more popular which is SEO, not development.

And overall passage seems like usual marketing fluff not worth a discussion.

Когда вы запланировали техническую поддержку сайта и его развитие, обязательно обратите внимание на прозрачность постановки задач и учёта времени по ним, на количество и стоимость часа разработчика/дизайнера. И лучше отдать предпочтение работать с той же командой, которая создавала вам сайт.

Развивать сайты Развивать сайты - means more than we think: It doesn't only mean maintenance, or just internal improvement, it is a marketing, e-Commerce related term. I hope you will get the point.

Why do you think "boost" is wrong? Boost means improvement. If it is Internet, e-Commerce related text, it's better to use "boost" than improvement or upgrade?
maintain and update, or maintain and improve - they (all) mean "website boosting", in e-Commerce- you don't say maintain and update, or maintain and improve.

Thank you so much, TheMisha! As the meaning is pretty vague, I've contacted the client who replied that this means internal improvement and adding features and functionality to the website itself. I was wrong about 'improve' in my first discussion entry. I believe, you are right and it should work as well as 'upgrade'.

Improve, perhaps? Streamline? The way I read it, this is definitely not about promoting (= advertising, publicizing, etc.). This is about technical maintenance. At best, they may do same SEO, or whatever it is called, which fails way short of promotion.

Boris is also right about "boosting". For one thing, it's usage - you do not "boost" websites. For the other, it may be a bit confusing in view of "boosting the signal". Me, I am very low-tech, and I would immediately think of boosting a weak signal to make it stronger. And then, of course, there's boosting wallets:))) No, you don't want any of this here.

Overall, maintain and update, or maintain and improve - because in all likelihood, that's what the service is about.

Одна проблема: boost применительно к website по смыслу ничем не отличается от promote. То есть хрен редьки не слаще от слова "совсем".

Хотя коренная проблема в том, что содержание понятия "развитие" здесь очень расплывчато, имхо.

Ещё раз спасибо всем, кто предложилответ. Проблема с переводом этого термина в том, что первые приходящие на ум варианты (optimize, promote, develop, improve, extend, expand) обозначают другие понятия, отличные от развития. При этом не уверен в целесообразности использования evolve и step up в данном контексте.

Если говорить о разработке/создании, то IMO используется build website. Если, как Вы считаете, develop не подходит, м.б. использовать improve, expand. Это то, что я бы сам использовал. Могу ошибаться, как и все прочие.

Понятно, что коллегам не удалось дочитаться до предложенного мною альтернативного варианта "improve", потому и аыдают его повторно через 5 часов. Ведь его нет в строке ответа, да и шрифт слишком мелкий. Ну то такое.

Спасибо, но это переводится как "разрабатывать веб-сайты". В поисковой выдаче речь также идёт о разработке, а не развитии имеющегося сайта.
