artist's impression

An artist's impression brings a plan to life (shows how a building will look in real life).

Playfair was a professional. All designs were worked out with immense care and meticulous technical drawings. He expected the highest standards from builders, relentlessly insisting on confirmation to his specifications. He was especially concerned with the presentation of his designs and with the development of public architectural competitions, huge stakes were placed on a 'single' **artist's impression** which had to sell a design at one glance. Whilst working on his design for Donaldson's Hospital, Playfair commissioned David Roberts to paint a view of how his designs might look sited in the landscape.

This **artist's impression** of the pool gives some idea of its coloring. Here, the view is forward.
