由于国内审查的缘故,目前所有脏话都只有译成“该死、见鬼、可恶”之类的东西。
如果抛开和谐因素,这些脏话应该怎么译比较好呢?
包括但不限于:sh*t/f**k (it)/(god)d*mn (it)/sonnova b*tch/hell/crap/mo****f**ker

另外,并不是有意要讨论这种三俗的玩意。只是最近在译一段黑手党背景的文本,里面的脏话如果绕开审查标准,我的确是想不出合适的译法(换言之,不

举几个例子:
(路遇老同学,已成家多年,有四个孩子。于是跟朋友聊起这个事。)D*mn. Can you imagine havin’ four kids right now?
(忙得不可开交,突然有人找。)Christ. Ain’t you just the godd*mn Prince Of Perfect F**kin’ Timing.
(警告友人提防暗算)Word comin’ down is that some mo****f**kers might try to hit you, so watch your ass.

It's still a matter of judgment or discretion of an individual translator, meaning, how do you yourself feel about putting profanities down on paper?

People use curse words for different reasons, but most of the time curse words are there mainly to add emphasis or add emotion. With a good grasp of the original English and an extensive enough vocabulary in the target language - in this particular case, Chinese - IMO it's not all that hard to find an equivalent to an expletive that i

大概确实是一个不太适合讨论的问题。
如果确实如前辈所说,没那么困难,那举几个例子让我开一下窍是再好不过了,感激不尽。
目前大脑宕机中,完全不知道怎么翻了。

Sorry, if I were to oblige, I might be breaking the rules myself Feb 29, 2016

Edgar,

Actually, all they're asking for is for you to edit your post so that it is in line with site rules.

Typically, the way to get around the issue in English is to bleep out the expletive, e.g., "What the h* do you mean?", or alternatively, just change the word h* to "heck". Frankly, to impart the meaning, tone, attitude, etc. of a piece of dialog, profane or not, IMO is actually one of the easier aspects of a translator's job.

I don't see an easy way to handle this easier aspect. Normally people tend not to use the F word, but when it does come around, I'm bewildered. Like I said, your vocabs are pretty much limited to the three options (见鬼该死可恶), which you use for all other cursings with varied tones and cannotations. It feels sick. And let's just don't talk about those more complex phrases/idioms/slang words.

This is what I ran into earlier this day:"Do as I said, or you'll wind up with your p**ker jammed down your own throat." “吃不了兜着走" was my best shot, still, not even close.

Edgar,

IMO, you're on the right track. Where does it say that you have to translate vulgarity word-for-word? It's the snappy tone and rude attitude that counts.

In this example, "吃不了兜着走" is pretty good - sufficiently irreverent but not utterly offensive. I say you basically did the job of cleaning up the language without losing the thrust of being colorful, brash, and impolite. IMO, a translator has to have some kind of ethical standard too. Censorship aside, what is okay to be put down in print versus what has crossed the line is entirely up to the individual's judgment. There is such a thing as self-censorship even when it comes to translation.

把所有-ker都译成混蛋混账王八蛋,把所有语气强烈的咒骂全部写成国内惯用的表达。
举个例子,反派对主角叫嚣,“You mess with the bull, you get his dick right up your f**cking ass!”我的版本是,“你这样出来搞,迟早是要还的!”信的比例很低,但看过无间道的玩家会会心一笑。
另外在TM里面发现了一些奇怪的翻译,比如meanest gators=最吝啬的短吻鳄,You have to get over it=你必须解决它。前文如此质量,我也没必要纠结了,得过且过吧。

再次感谢回帖的各位前辈了!

对的,无论是真正谩骂,还是 泄愤、嘲笑、逗贫... , 把强烈的语气表达出来就行了。

英文不雅的用语很多,但常常是用来加重语气的,跟中文汇话中掺杂着一些不礼貌的助词相仿,不用 word-for-word 翻出来。
