I keep my own books, inasmuch as I do all my own invoicing and record all financial transactions, etc. But the figures are all sent off to our accountant who submits tax returns and does all the other official paperwork. | | | John Cutler Espanha Local time: 04:51 espanhol para inglês + ...

My method exactly (and the the expense of paying for an accountant is well worth it). | | | David Wright Áustria Local time: 04:51 alemão para inglês + ...
The end of year accounts would just take up more time during which I can earn enough to pay the accountant.

I did all of it when I first started as a freelancer. As a company now, I only collect and sort bills, pay and get paid, and take care of the monthly invoicing. My accountant does the rest: VAT, tax return, annual report and accounts, etc. He keeps up to date wih the ever changing laws and regulations, saves me lots of trouble and money. | | | Michael Harris Alemanha Local time: 04:51 Membro (2006) alemão para inglês write the bills | Jun 3, 2011 |
and make the monthly tax paxments myself but the big stuff is done by my accountant as he knows all of the tricks to getting out of paying too much tax. And he has to always be up to date with the ongoing tax changes made here in Germany. | | | wonita (X) China Local time: 22:51 A matter of principle | Jun 3, 2011 |

I'm in the same boat as Mary and John... etc. because I know my own failings. I can just about manage to keep a list of jobs done and the corresponding invoices, but I am not very good at admin (in fact, am rubbish at it) and am liable to forget to bill for some things, especially revisions. In fact, I have to do 2 bills ASAP, have been meaning to do so for 3 weeks now, but although the work was from the same client, the bills have to go to 2 different institutions, and I keep putti... Like right now. Nor do I trust myself to do my own tax returns, as I'd doubtless be paying over the odds if I did so, which is why I let a "gestor" (agent) do that for me as well as any other things involving Spanish bureaucracy. ▲ Collapse

I have been doing my own bookkeeping and accountancy ever since I started, but this year is the first year I felt a bit overwhelmed. Not by the amount of my earnings but by the many changes and new stuff I have to do. Now is the time when I might start doing mistakes, so I am considering contacting an accountant. | | | Allison Wright (X) Portugal Local time: 03:51
Once my VAT exemption expires, however, I fully expect that I shall use the services of an accountant. VAT could easily lose its acronym status, in my view, and become a four-letter word.

Do my own bookkeeping and taxes | Jun 3, 2011 |
I have always kept my own books and used to hire an accountant to do my quarterly and annual taxes, but this year I decided to learn the ropes and start doing them myself. After all, I keep a record of everything, so it isn´t that much extra effort to just tally up the numbers and fill out the forms. I visited the people at the tax authorities and did a bit of reading about what I am required to do. I don´t particularly like doing administrative work, but it doesn´t take long to get the hang ...
