I don't like printing, I find it a waste of resources.

Well, it depends on the text length but I generally prefer to print my translations, especially for wordy and lingo-based texts.

I really find it not worth to do because all you do is waste lot of resources using printing on paper. If you think about producing a paper you will know how much you saved not only final product but also all things needed to produce a letter and you will reduce CO and CO2 emission.

My process:
1. Segment-by-segment on the unclean version, on screen.
2. Check unclean version with Apsic X-Bench.
3. Line-by-line on the clean version, on paper printout.
4. Sometimes, playback with text-to-speech program and compare with source printout, to check the text flows.
5. Send to external proofing if a direct client.
Fairly time-consuming but well worth it.

This does not surprise me at all. I believe that only about 30-35% of the people on this site are professional translators.

Usually I proofread my translation or any other works (e. g. website content writing) on-screen. In some cases I also print it out (though then I keep thinking of the trees) to ensure that I haven't missed anything. This can easily happen after looking at the screens for several hours.
Not proofreading the translation - like thus far 2.6% have confessed in this poll - wouldn't even cross my mind. After all, I consider my work to be my business card.

I know most paper produced nowadays is done so without chopping down virgin forests or any such horrors, but I'd still rather not print out a 30 page doc to proofread it and then to just chuck it away.
I proofread a couple of times myself on-screen, then send it to a colleague to do so just to be extra careful. As I see it, second opinion is always useful.

First proofreading: segment by segment on screen
Second translation: print out the source text and changes applied on screen.
I confess I would not print, as I think that it would be better to save paper, but the quality of my proofreading is definitely better this way.
Oh about people who do not proofread their work, I hope it is because someone else does it for them before the final delivery!!!!

Hi everyone !
As a matter of fact, I am much better on paper than on screen for proofreading. However like every one else I think, I try to print only the very last version so not to use too much paper. the first proofread on screen is made along the translation (I always check paragraph by paragraph) then print, proofread and make changes and finally do final quick verification on screen to make sure I haven't forgotten any change...

I presently proofread on-screen although I used printouts in the past. But I would end up using reams of paper and like Paula H and MedTrans respectively, considered this a waste of resources and thought about the trees. Having said that though, I must admit reading the hard copy is much better for the eyes.
I was amazed when I read 2.6% of translators never proofed their work. I wouldn’t dream of handing in work that hadn’t been proofread either by myself or another.
