Just one? I've probably got about a dozen. I was thinking recently of going back to university to broaden my career possibilities and open doors to other things I'd like to do professionally. As usual, it's a matter of time, or should I say a lack thereof? | | | William Murphy Italy Local time: 08:16 Member (2009) Italian to English + ...

The dreams remain to be accomplished. The dream of achieving the interpreting speed and stamina to work part of the time as a conference booth interpreter; the control of registers to write my also-dreamed book in my second-language Spanish, by myself ... And then there are the more-personal dreams: you know that there are over 6 billion people in the world and that over half of those are women. Whew, I really have my work cut out for me on the romance!! ... See more The dreams remain to be accomplished. Well, there are about 6000 languages spoken on earth... | Jun 28, 2010 |
...not counting 4000 dead languages, if I could speak so 9998 or 9999 of them perfectly, it would be great! And my greatest dream on earth: I want to be a wonderful pianist and I am only a bad one. If I also could be a perfect organist, flutist, guitarist, violonist, violoncellist, hornist... THAT would be GREAT! | | | Colin Ryan (X) Local time: 08:16 Italian to English + ... Publish, publish, publish... | Jun 28, 2010 |
I'm not sure if this counts as a professional dream, exactly, but one day I'd like to have my poetry translations published. Since this is more pleasure than business (and hardly what you'd call lucrative!) I guess it's more of a personal dream. But it IS translation, so I answered "yes" to the poll. | | | Getting paid for what my work is worth... | Jun 28, 2010 |
Can this be considered a "yet to be fullfilled professional dream"? | | | Rebekka Groß (X) Local time: 07:16 English to German Are there really people out there that have 'professional dreams'? | Jun 28, 2010 |
No, I'm just happy to do what I'm doing. My dreams are about other things

The main professional dream I have would be to become qualified/certified to interpret in my state's court system. Right now, it's a work in progress. I've passed one of the exams so far. Another dream I have is more personal than professional, but it is related to my profession. I would like to learn Portuguese. It would take a lot of time and work before I would feel comfortable adding it as a working language--if that happens---but if I don't, it could come in handy some ot... that novel!
I didn't really know which answer to chose: there are indeed things I want to achieve in my professional life, but I'm not sure I would call them dreams. As Rebekka says, my true "dreams" are rather in other areas of life. | | | Cristina Munari Italy Local time: 08:16 Member (2008) English to Italian + ... ...but your heart would have taken you into another. But now, many years later, I am doing something about it. After a tough year on a personal level, I very recently quit my full-time job and registered in a local university in the field that was my first career choice many moons ago. Whether it leads to something or not, at least I will be able to say: "I tried." And that, to me, is priceless. | | | Thayenga Germany Local time: 08:16 Member (2009) English to German + ... To have a poetry book published is quite an experience, for sure. I know, cause I have 2 of mine published in print plus those in e-book format. And would like to see them translated - and published - in all the major languages. To fluently speak all the languages I'm interested in - some 500+ - is one of my dreams. The other is to have my screenplays produced with subtitles in various languages for all you qualified translators here. We can always dream, no?
