Source text - English WARNING - THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS DANGEROUS AND THE POTENTIAL FOR INJURY EXISTS. THE CUSTOMER MUST ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR PERFORMING THIS PROCEDURE SAFELY. PERSONNEL PERFORMING THIS CHANNEL CLEANING PROCEDURE MUST WEAR PROPER FIRE AND HEAT RESISTANT HEAD WEAR, FACE SHIELD, CLOTHING, AND GLOVES.
The bubbling equipment consists of a 1/4" (» 6 mm) or 3/8" (» 10 mm) pipe long enough to reach from above the bath to the bottom of the inductor channels. The pipe is attached to the pressure regulator of the nitrogen tank with a flexible hose.
To bubble the channel, open the pressure regulator so a small amount of nitrogen is flowing. Go down into the inductor throat until the center channel is found. Increase the pressure to where a gentle roll of metal appears on the hearth surface (approximately 10 pounds on gauge). Turn the control switch to low power and keep pushing the pipe down the center channel until the meter starts to oscillate. At this point, lower the gas flow to about one-half (1/2) pound (3.4 KPa) until the meter reading is steady.
If the bottom channel is found and power is not restored, go to an end channel and repeat until power is restored to the inductor.
The above method, properly carried out, has been found quite reliable. However, it is not recommended to shut down the furnace by intentional freezing for period of more than a few hours.
After a prolonged power failure, it is recommended the inductor mating flange area and the copper bushings be inspected frequently for leaks over the next few days. This precaution is necessary because the contraction and expansion due to thermal shock may cause cracks in the inductor lining.
