This spring Tate Modern will present a major new exhibition of Auguste Rodin (1840-1917). It will show how he broke the rules of classical sculpture to create a dramatically different image of the human body, mirroring the ruptures, complexities and uncertainties of the modern age. Featuring over 200 works, many of which have never been shown outside France, The EY Exhibition: The Making of Rodin will offer unique insight into Rodin’s ways of thinking and making. Thanks to a unique collaboration with the Musée Rodin, who have offered Tate unprecedented access to their collection, visitors will be able to both appreciate the originality of iconic works such as The Thinker 1881 and The Three Shades 1886 as well as make fresh discoveries that reveal how the artist transformed modern sculpture.
Although Rodin is best known for his bronze and marble sculptures, he personally only worked as a modeller, capturing movement, emotion, light and volume in pliable materials such as clay which were then cast in plaster. The EY Exhibition: The Making of Rodin is the first show to focus in-depth on Rodin’s use of plaster, taking inspiration from the artist’s landmark self-organised exhibition at the Pavillon de l’Alma in 1900. It was here that Rodin made the unconventional decision to display his life’s work almost entirely in plaster, emphasising the crucial role the medium played in his career. Many of the star exhibits of 1900 such as the monumental casts of Balzac 1898 or La Meditation 1896 will be shown at Tate Modern in a rare reunion.
The exhibition will also evoke the atmosphere of the Pavillon de l’Alma, which in turn had riffed on an imaginary vision of the artist’s studio. Rather than show a workshop populated by models, carvers, casters, photographers and founders who turned Rodin’s creations and vision into traditional commercial sculptures, it foregrounded modelling and the notion of the ‘artist’s hand’ as the central drivers for Rodin’s work. A stockpile of plaster body parts on loan from the Musée Rodin will reveal how he continually experimented with fragmentation, repetition and joining existing parts in unconventional ways. Individually crafted heads, hands, arms, legs and feet allowed him to dismantle and reassemble his works time and again in countless combinations and poses. The exhibition will explore how these experiments went on to influence some of the artist’s best-known sculptures, including the newly restored plaster for The Burghers of Calais 1889 displayed as Rodin had originally intended.
The complex dynamics of Rodin’s work with different models will be considered from the perspective of some of the extraordinary women with whom he worked, including his onetime studio assistant and collaborator Camille Claudel. Rather than conceive an ideal, Rodin strongly responded to the individual character and physicality of his models. This is especially evident in his numerous portraits of the actress Ohta Hisa (1868-1945), who under her stage name Hanako performed westernised adaptations of Kabuki theatre to French audiences enthralled by all things Japanese. Busts depicting Rodin’s friend and correspondent, the German aristocrat Helene Von Nostitz née Hindenburg (1878–1944), also illustrate how he embraced visible traces of his work’s creation, believing the ‘process’ to be as significant as the finished form.
Archival images, many of which Rodin chose to display alongside his plaster works at the Pavillon de l'Alma, will show how he used photography to explore combinations of forms and analyse his sculptures from multiple viewpoints. These will be joined by a series of the artist’s delicate watercolour drawings in which he further experimented and re-worked bodily forms.
The EY Exhibition: The Making of Rodin is curated by Nabila Abdel Nabi, Curator, International Art, Tate Modern, Chloé Ariot, Curator for Sculpture, Musée Rodin, Paris and Achim Borchardt-Hume, Director of Exhibitions and Programmes, Tate Modern, with Helen O’Malley, Assistant Curator, Tate Modern. Source text - English DESCRIPTION OF CRISIS-SPECIFIC CHALLENGE
New Generation Teacher Training Center (NG-TTC) is a joint partnership between the Catholic Diocese of Myitkyina’s Diocesan Commission for Education (DCE) and the Jesuit Refugee Service (JRS) to address the lack of skilled teachers in Kachin State, Myanmar. NG-TTC combines pre-service training, field-based practicum, and two years of continuous professional development for volunteer teachers in IDP camps and communities in conflict-affected areas.
Internal conflicts have resulted in over 401,000 people being displaced within Myanmar. Though a Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement was signed in 2015, several ethnic armed organizations (EAOs) have not signed the document and continue to engage in conflict with the Burmese army.
Kachin State is divided between government- controlled areas (GCAs) and non-government- controlled areas (NGCAs) controlled by EAOs. Access to quality education is limited in these remote areas; according to a 2017 UN report, 35,525 people lacked access to education. Furthermore, each NGCA has its own unique education system and challenges. There are significant teacher shortages across all school levels. Government teachers are often reluctant to go to GCAs due to their remoteness and proximity to ongoing conflicts, and they are barred from entering NGCAs. Humanitarian agencies face similar barriers to service-delivery in NGCAs.
Church-based organizations, such as DCE, have recruited and sent volunteers to remote and conflict- affected schools in Kachin for many years over the course of the decades-long conflict. However, NG- TTC is unique as a comprehensive preparation and in-service training program in Kachin – previously, the training period for volunteer teachers before deployment lasted anywhere from one week to one month. In light of this, the Diocese and JRS embarked on the NG-TTC partnership to enhance the training program and improve the overall quality of education.
BRIEF OVERVIEW
NG-TTC began in 2014 as a collaboration between JRS Myanmar and the Diocesan Commission for Education- Myitkyina (DCE). Each year, DCE recruits and selects volunteers from host and IDP communities through the local church network to serve as teachers in IDP camps and communities in community-based schools managed by DCE and ethnic armed groups. Most of these volunteers (88%) come from Kachin State; 28% are IDPs themselves, while the remainder come from areas that are conflict-affected but have not experienced displacement. Mostvolunteers are female (77%), and the average age is 21 years. The level of education among volunteers varies: 17% are university graduates, 32% have passed secondary matriculation exams and continue to higher education after their teaching service, and 49% have not passed secondary matriculation exams. Several factors drive volunteers’ motivation to teach. Mostly they are motivated by a desire to contribute to long-term development of the area. Some volunteers also see school as an important tool by which to prevent children’s recruitment into armed groups, and therefore see teaching as a form of peacebuilding.

O Centro de Formação de Professores da Nova Geração (NG-TTC) é uma parceria conjunta entre a diocese católica da Comissão Diocesana para a Educação (DCE, pela sigla em inglês) de Myitkyina e o Serviço Jesuíta aos Refugiados com vista a fazer face ao problema da escassez de professores qualificados no estado de Cachim, no Mianmar. O NG-TTC combina formação inicial, prática no terreno e dois anos de desenvolvimento profissional contínuo para professores voluntários em campos e comunidades de PDI em zonas afetadas por conflitos.
Os conflitos internos resultaram na deslocação de mais de 401 mil pessoas no Mianmar. Apesar de ter sido assinado um acordo de cessar-fogo a nível nacional em 2015, várias milícias étnicas rejeitaram o documento e continuam a envolver-se em conflitos com o exército birmanês.

Source text - English Many of the livelihood activities have associated risks and will always experience economic reversals due to factors beyond their controls such as availability of raw material, fluctuations in price, uneven distribution of species and products, changes in weather and economic behavior, inadequate access to business insurance and access to credit for sustaining livelihood activities. These uncertainties may be minimized by strategies, which range from simple common sense to complex cultural adaptations.
Within the framework of agriculture for instance, farming in Angola can be seen as embroiled in several uncertainties: in environmental variations causing product and yield uncertainty, price variations causing market uncertainty and lack of information. Another dimension of risk, which is not peculiar to the peri urban interface, can be seen in terms of what Hodgett and Luthans (2000) described as ownership-control risk in which ownership of local resources is limited by such policies that do not give titles to land developers. Angola land ownership is still challenging since refugees to date have no or limited access to land use and ownership.
An important risk that confronts livelihood promotion is seasonality in rainfall regimes. With a bi-modal sub-humid regime, there are generally two work peaks and two harvests each year. Consequently, where irrigation practice is not part of the livelihood promotion strategy, the least said about the high tendency for crop failure the better. Seasonality of crop production complicates farm and household’s decision-making in various ways.

English to Portuguese: After the Brexit Vote, Mark Neville Looks at Life in "Little Britain" EN-US>PT-PT General field: Art/Literary
Source text - English The London-born photographer Mark Neville is best known as a documenter of discrete communities, whose circumstances and concerns he records with an activist energy. In 2004, in Port Glasgow, he completed a series of photographs that was distributed, in book form, only to inhabitants of the troubled mercantile and shipbuilding town. Seven years later he was engaged by the British Army as an official war artist in Helmand province, Afghanistan. He returned with P.T.S.D., and subsequently published "Battle Against Stigma", a campaigning, two-volume work on behalf of veterans afflicted with the disorder. Though he has no children of his own, Neville is an especially subtle photographer of them; his 2016 book, "Child’s Play", brings together many such pictures, to protest the disappearance of public play areas in Britain and elsewhere.
Neville studied fine art in school, and was educated in Conceptualism and institutional critique before being drawn to documentary practice. But for him art alone is never the point, even if his images are notably artful. He is indebted to socially engaged photographers such as Tom Wood and Chris Killip, and was sharing an exhibition with both of them in the town of Guingamp, in Brittany, when he conceived of his most recent project. They were there at the time of the Brexit vote, in June of 2016, and Neville found himself apologizing to his Breton hosts, ashamed of his own Britishness, though Brittany (France’s "Little Britain") is home to an estimated thirteen thousand British citizens. Beginning that month, and finishing in April of this year, Neville documented life in the region, mostly in or around Guingamp, hoping to show the complexity and openness of what may seem to be a tribal, inward-looking place. In color and black-and-white, in large and medium format, with varying degrees of planning and artifice, the pictures—collected in a new book, "Parade"—show an agricultural community that is thoroughly modern and industrialized, devoted to its traditional sporting and cultural pursuits, but sharply aware that neither agribusiness nor rural nostalgia will provide a viable, or ethical, future.

Translation - Portuguese INTRODUÇÃO
Nesta Missão, os alunos vão trabalhar em campanhas de Ação Climática através do programa dos Young Reporters for the Environment (www.yre.global). Espera-se que cumpram os seguintes objetivos de aprendizagem e desenvolvam as seguintes competências. Terão ainda a oportunidade de se familiarizarem com questões de Ação Climática através de diferentes atividades em salas de aula e cursos 'online'. Após completarem esta fase, os alunos irão trabalhar na redação de artigos de imprensa.

Objetivos gerais da etapa:
O principal objetivo desta missão é sensibilizar as crianças para as alterações climáticas e o aquecimento global e desenvolver as suas técnicas de escrita.
Objectivos de Aprendizagem
Espera-se que os alunos sejam capazes de:
- Compreender o que são as Alterações Climáticas e o Aquecimento Global.
- Compreender porque importam as alterações climáticas a nível global e porque o mundo inteiro deveria atuar nesta área.
- Explicar as alterações climáticas a partir de um ponto de vista científico.
- Compreender o ciclo do carbono e como este afeta os seres humanos.
- Analisar o ciclo da água e porque é importante nas alterações climáticas.
- Tomar consciência das consequências das alterações climáticas.
- Associar as alterações climáticas à produção alimentar.
- Associar as alterações climáticas à saúde.
- Compreender porque as alterações climáticas não nos afetam por igual.
