Source text - English The three main components of a bone anchored hearing system are the screw shaped implant which is osseointegrated in the temporal bone, the skin penetrating abutment which is fixated to the implant with a connection screw, and the sound processor which can be connected and disconnected to the abutment by the user, see fig 1. The sound processor converts sound into vibrations that are transmitted via the abutment and implant directly to the skull bones and then via direct bone conduction to the cochlea. Except from reaching the ipsi-lateral cochlea, the vibrations are also transmitted to the contra-lateral cochlea, although the signal is somewhat attenuated (around 5-10 dB) when transmitted from one side to the other

I am a Brazilian born US citizen and I feel privileged to share two of the most extraordinary countries in the world, in terms of music, art, cuisine and nature. I have been a language lover since I was a child, and was first introduced to English by The Beatles, with my brother and my sisters' help!
I have been living and working in the US since 2004, but I frequently travel back to my home country to visit my family.
My academic background is in Applied Linguistics (PhD, 2002 and MA, 1996) and also Social Sciences (BA, 1982). I worked as a professor at colleges and universities in São Paulo, Brazil, for over 8 years, before I got married and moved to the US.
I love to translate all kinds of texts. Every time I approach a new task, I am amazed by how much I can learn in terms of language use, cultural choices and nuances in both spoken and written languages.
