I have a Word document with many footnotes which don't appear in Studio 2009. I haven't found any way for Studio to "see" them. I asked this same question some time ago and received no reply.
Thank you in advance for your help.

Word 2003 and Studio 2011 has Footnote options, maybe Studio 2009 does too... Jan 13, 2015

Alberto,

I only have Studio 2011, so I don't know if 2009 is the same, but Studio 2011 has Footnote options for Word 2000-2003 files:

Tools menu > Options > File Types > Microsoft Word 2000-2003 > Footnotes
The default is to remove footnotes so, on the Footnote options screen, you have to delete the footnote marks you want to preserve/translate. And, you can select whether to treat footnotes as tags (the default setting) or as ordinary text.

I don't see such an option for the Microsoft Word 2007-2013 file type however.

If you have Word 2000-2003 files, then it might be worth a shot...

Anyone else know about footnotes in Word 2007-2013???

Word footnotes are translatable by default Jan 14, 2015

Alberto and Michael

By default, footnotes in a WORD document will always be shown as translatable. The footnote reference will appear as a tag and the text of the footnote in a separate segment that shows the Document structure ID "FN+".

For .DOC files (Word up to 2003), there is an option to exclude some types of footnotes to show up in the Editor (this is the one Michael mentioned) or to show the footnotes as normal text (for details click on Help in the corresponding

For .DOCX there is no such option as footnotes will always be shown in the Editor.

This applies both to Studio 2014 and 2011 and, as far as I remember, it was already like this in 2009. I can't check anymore as I dont have any copy of 2009 left anymore (too old!).

Ta-da!! Jan 14, 2015

It worked!!
I saved the file as .doc (which fortunately didn't affect the format or the content) and the footnotes appeared. No way to do it on .docx files.

Thank you both, Michael and Walter.
