Italian term

Borsa in velluto verniciato

Italian to English Other Textiles / Clothing / Fashion
I am trying to find the right term for "velluto verniciato". I found "painted leather" on the internet but from the photo that was next to it, it seemed shiny and more patent in nature.

borsa in velluto verniciato dalla texture a pied de poule

Bag in patent/painted velvet in a hounds tooth pattern.

Thanks in advance.

Perfect, thanks!
Marina Vittoria Nov 4, 2014:
Sorry, the right translation was:
Bag in hundstooth-painted velvet

I wrote wrongly "leather" instead of velvet
fountain (asker) Nov 4, 2014:
Thanks for replying. Can I ask where does velluto play into this? From an image I have found, it does appear more like leather than velvet but as they specified it I was wondering if you knew why.

And hound's tooth rather than hundstooth. Previously more commonly known as dog('s) tooth check.

Bag in hundstooth-painted leather

This is right, in my opinion.
I work in the industry.
But wait a confirmation by mother tongue colleagues.

patent leather in Italian means "vernice"

But I wrote a note that it was wrong and corrected with velvet. Thank you for your bad comment even if you haven't read my post.

Flocked velvet (or leather) handbag

"Flocking is the process of depositing many small fiber particles (called flock) onto a surface. It can also refer to the texture produced by the process, or to any material used primarily for its flocked surface. Flocking of an article can be performed for the purpose of increasing its value in terms of the tactile sensation, aesthetics, color and appearance." (Wikipedia) The two references both show handbags, one leather and one velvet.
Peer comment(s):

neutral Marina Vittoria : Flocked in Italian means "fioccato" and it is a technical word: I don't believe that it means "verniciato".

Fair enough.
