Italian term

meteodiffusivo

Italian to English Tech/Engineering Environment & Ecology
I need help translating a specific term into English. I cannot find a translation for this term in English and I believe there are very few hits on Google for this term, even in Italian so I am a bit stuck on how to find this term. Even if you may not know the term in English, can someone explain to me what this term means in Italian? As far as I can tell, it might be something like "weather dependent"

Some context:

Thank you

atmospheric dispersion

This reference might help:

L'indice meteodiffusivo dell'atmosfera (ovvero la facilità a favorire la dispersione degli inquinanti) prospetta un fine settimana con una buona qualità dell'aria.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "I think this works the best in both examples I posted in the question. Atmospheric pollution could also work as the context is talking about atmospheric dispersion of pollutants, however I will use this term. "

atmospheric pollution

I think the writer, thinking him/herself clever, just made up that word to try and sound more intelligent. I think this is what it means.

"per cui i fenomeni meteodiffusivi fanno sentire gli effetti soprattutto nelle immediate vicinanze dei punti di emissione" =

"making the effects of atmospheric pollution most evident in the immediate vicinity of the point where they are emitted"

i.e using a lot of words to state the blindingly obvious.

I might do it like this: "which, as is well known, are the main cause of the high concentrations of CO periodically detected in urban locations when traffic is congested and the meteorological conditions are not favourable for the dispersion of pollutants"

I used "meteorological conditions" because it's closer to the Italian text
Note from asker:
So even in this example it would be "atmospheric pollution"? Certainly does sound like the Italian is using a lot of words to say something quite simple... "che come è noto sono le principali responsabili delle alte concentrazioni di CO che periodicamente si verificano nei centri urbani nelle condizioni caratterizzate da traffico congestionato e condizioni meteodiffusive sfavorevoli alla dispersione degli inquinanti" "which, as noted, are principally responsible for the high concentration of CO that is periodically detected in urban centers due to traffic congestion and atmospheric pollution that do not favour the break down of pollutants.
Actually in hindsight, I have used atmospheric pollution in my translation. But I think both terms could fit depending on context. Can I just ask why you used "meteorological conditions" for the second example of meteodiffusivo? It certainly fits better but doesn't correspond with atmospheric pollution or atmospheric dispersion.

agree Lionel_M (X) : may be "air pollution" also ?

yes but "atmospheric" is closer to the source text
