Die Kost Bar

German to English Marketing Wine / Oenology / Viticulture Humorous or ambiguous name for a wine bar or similar
Hallo colleagues!
As you can see I am still preoccupied with these "Vinothek" places. I am preparing a guided tour in English for which I have to explain the pun (if that is what it is) involved in the designation "Die Kost Bar" for the indoor counter/wine bar of a nearby Vinothek.
Here is the blurb about it which I luckily only need to pass on in my own words, not translate:

Discussion

Yorkshireman Aug 3, 2014:
I would have... ... loved to have seen it as "Ze Vine Bar" :-)

Have a good what's left of the weekend - hope it's not as sticky and humid as it is up here in Hannover.
British Diana (asker) Aug 3, 2014:
True, Yorkshireman, but I can only choose and reward answers that have been posted as such. I gave you full points this time because of your contribution to the discussion.
Yorkshireman Aug 3, 2014:
TO BE FAIR... Tasting Bar actually came from Trudy Peters in her agreement with one of my suggestions.
billcorno (X) Jul 31, 2014:
Or Fine Vine Wine Bar?
billcorno (X) Jul 31, 2014:
How about Fine Vines Bar?
Yorkshireman Jul 30, 2014:
Brits on the tour would love it! How about "The Vine Bar"?
a not particularly well hidden dig at the pronunciation of wine by some Germans.
BrigitteHilgner Jul 30, 2014:
Kostbar (it should be one word in German)
the place to sample sumptuous wines
Yorkshireman Jul 30, 2014:
Diana The first thing that comes to mind on reading "Kost Bar" is vegetable juices and salads (Rohkost).

Personally, I would go for "The Grapevine" - the source of wine and the source of information for insiders

You even get a whole load of instant slogans like "I heard it at The Grapevine", "Listen to The Grapevine" etc.

And - I apologise now for the terrible rhyme - it rhymes with "great wine"

Utterly horrid: "The Tastery"

And another "The Vine Bar" a not particularly well hidden dig at the pronunciation of wine by some Germans. (Brits on the tour would love it!)
Note from asker:
Thank you, Yorkshireman! I am looking for a name for the "Kost Bar" so that people will know what it is there for.
I also like "The Vine Bar" !
Peer comment(s):

agree Susanne Rindlisbacher : The Taste Bar. Ich habe den Eindruck, dass hier die Verkostung im Vordergrund steht.

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "It was tempting to try one of the more punning alternatives but I decided they were too subtle for your typical wineloving tourist. So Tasting Bar it is."

Fine Wines Bar None

Preserves the pun with the bar and gets rid of Kost which wasn't particularly convincing in the first place, as Yorkshireman already hinted.
Note from asker:
Thank you, Michael! Is this suggestion perhaps a bit too subtle??

The Wine Counter

Note from asker:
Thank you, Helen! In the "nice story" it seems that the owner deliberately used "Counter" because his licence was not for a "bar"and that a "bar" is higher. Does this mean I ouhght to measure the height of the "KostBar";-).
Decided against this, Helen, as "Counter" loses the association with drinking that "Bar" has.

Taste Bude

An English speaker would probably get this, as might a German.
Note from asker:
Thanks, Bill , but was is the pun?
Peer comment(s):

neutral Yorkshireman : A pretty cruel pun - I like it!

Thanks! (Could it be as some people say these days - krewel?)
