German term

Deckwein

German to English Other Wine / Oenology / Viticulture
It's a certain type of wine but I can't find a translation for it.

Here is a definition
Deckwein bezeichnet einen sehr farbkräftigen Rotwein aus dunklen Rebsorten (Färbertrauben), der speziell zum Zweck der Farbverbesserung farbschwacher Weine, wie beispielsweise Portugieser oder Trollinger, angebaut wird.

Thanks in advance

teinturier wine

went via the French to find this - I know for sure that in French a grape variety grown just to add colour to other, paler varieties is called a "cépage teinturier". The OIV Lexique de la Vigne et du Vin has "teinturier wine" for "vin teinturier", and it's be confirmed by several reliable Web sites.

Thanks!
agree Michael Hudson : US winemakers call these red flesh grapes with red juice, teinturier, e.g in Napa Valley. Wuerttemberg wines use teinturiers to darken e.g a Trollinger. Dornfelder(originally a Deckwein grape variety)Rotwein Trocken is naturally dark red & very drinkable.

Colouring wine

I suspect the French term may be more commonly used in the trade though.
Example sentence:

Colouring wine: These deep red wines are used to improve the colour of light red wines.
