This is a text listing the challenges of creating systems for dealing with dust and oxide dust. The client is a maker of ventilation systems, but this technology would be installed in an ironworks or some such:

Hi Lori - I know nothing about this subject but figured I give you what I came up with to see if it is of any use to you.
Langenscheidt Technik translates Bär as tup, salamander, ram under Fallhammerkopf. A Fallhamerbär is a drop-hammer tup.
SCLEROSCOPE TEST. A hardness test in which the loss in kinetic energy of a falling metal "tup," absorbed by indentation upon impact of the tup on the metal being tested, is indicated by the height of rebound. Return To Top

In the Charpy test, the specimen is laid loosely on a support in the path of the pendulum and broken as a beam loaded at three points; the tup (striking edge) strikes the middle of the specimen, with the notch opposite the tup, that is, on the tension side. Both tests give substantially the same result with the same specimen unless the material is very ductile, a situation in which there is little interest.
