German term

Endo-Aufsatz

German to English Medical Medical: Instruments Endodontic Device
"Abb. 3b - Abb. 4a und 4b: Einige Hersteller stellen spezielle Handstücke für die Endodontie oder spezielle ***Endo-Aufsätze*** zur Verfügung."

I haven't got the tinest little notion what an "Endo-Aufsatz" is. The dental dictionaries I have access to don't offer any clue at all. I don't suppose, by any slight chance, someone here would know what the wretched thing is? I hope someone can come up with something, because I'm totally and utterly defeated by it, and frankly I think words like this should be outlawed as inhumane to translators. Anyway, TIA for any light you can shed on it.

You're very welcome, Ariane. And thank you again for your great assistance.
margarete Oct 28, 2004:
Thanks for this really nice compliment Rowan!
margarete Oct 27, 2004:
Hello Rowan, somehow I think the "Endo" is probably short for "Endodontie" here. It might help to know what device we are talking about here. Wo wird dieser Aufsatz aufgesetzt?

endo attachment

purely guessing here, but I found this in a list of dental equipment:

20c) Satalac Scaler Endo Attachment M/s.M.S.Associates 1 AMC

and this:
Have you checked out Profin™ lateral filing to zap overhang, or Pathfinder™ reciprocating/axial endo attachment?

Not for points, simply building on the other two answers...

4 KudoZ points awarded for this answer. Comment: "You may not have answered for points, but you're going to get them, because I think this is pretty likely. I like the way you guess, Ariane. You don't simply say "just guessing" in the maddening way some others do, but you provide references for your guesses so I can least know what led you to make such a guess and can understand where you're coming from. The kinds of answers you give could go in a KudoZ "coaching manual", if such a thing were ever created, although both Jill and SYates did quite well here also. But anyway, the references have convinced me that "endo attachment" is definitely plausible, although the other answerers helped me feel reasonably convinced of the validity of "attachment". So thanks to you all - I appreciate your assistance greatly."

Not sure about this term but this link may throw some light on the subject for you. I am not sure whether these handpieces are used on their own or attached to another instrument.

endoscope fitting/attachment/accessory

Endo is most likely to be an abbreviation of endoscope/endoscopic IMHO

From a quick check of Google, it appears that endo is a commonly used term, (endo-surgery, endo fittings etc.) so you could leave it as such.

could also be the endoscope head if it is attached to the end of the whatever
