Stephen Sadie (asker) Jun 29, 2006:
Kim, I was assuming that the food itself is live animals...but maybe I have misunderstood
Kim Metzger Jun 29, 2006:
It's OK to feed dead animals? :)

Parent of a school friend had an 8-foot python - it never dared to try to swallow a hedgehog, though
Peer comment(s):

agree Kim Metzger : I think Stephen's solution is correct too, but open to ambiguity.

It's all a matter of who's being fed and who's the food, ain't it?
agree John Speese : Without more context, I too would agree with Stephen's solution...they probably are talkingg about reptiles here, I know it would freak my wife out to see a live mouse thrown to a python for food in a pet store!

feeding live prey

An alternative that's maybe a little less ambiguous than Stephen's own solution... ;-)
Peer comment(s):

neutral HarryHedgehog : Still doesn't differentiate clearly between what's the feed and what's being fed. The reference you quote says "feeding live prey _to_", which is the crucial part of you wish to phrase it like this...

Yes it does. Prey usually gets eaten, rather than the other way around...
