This is used in logistics texts but the reference is to IT/data processing.
Das defekte Gerät wird an das XXXXXXXX Repaircenter geschickt. Es ist wichtig, dass auf dem Reparaturauftrag vermerkt wird, dass die Daten gehoben werden müssen. Konnten die Daten vom Repaircenter gehoben werden und sind diese ins System gelaufen, müssen die doppelten, manuell gesetzten Kennzeichen storniert werden. (perhaps "downloaded" or "extracted" in view of talk of duplicating information & the need to delete duplicate information?)
I'm not sure if gehoben refers to eliminating or "lifting (extracting i.e. downloading) the data....This is related to a an unsuccessful data transfer using the Gerät and a possible reason for the unsuccessful transfer is that the device is defect.
Here the Gerät mentioned in the sentence is used to transfer data. However the data transfer is not successful: Eine fehlende Übertragung kann auch in einem Defekt des gerätes begründet sein...and therefore the Gerät must be sent to the repair centre.

I *think* this is a situation of trying to get data from a non-functioning device. If that's so, then "recovered" is the usual term in IT circles. However, if it's simply a question of getting the data off a normally working drive, then "retrieved" would be better.
Example sentence:
The hard drive stopped working, but the technicial was able to *recover* the data.
I *retrieved* the file from the server.

This is purely a guess - i think the repair centre is supposed to try and retrieve the data.

: A very good one (guess)! I also like K.Cox version "recovered". Both terms are used for mass storage devices (hard disk/drive, tape backups, zip drive etc.). Not flash drives/cd/dvd media with defects. Recovered: when defects exist. Retrieved: data acess.

Both options seem possible, but perhaps "recovered" is more adequate in view of the defect. I would use the same verb in both cases.
