Yes, that's four letters shorter, and thus infinitesimally better!

As an alternative to 'advancement'. I can't find it used in the sense proposed by dict.cc in either the OED or Miriam Webster's American dictionary:
https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/advancement
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/advancement
Your sentence contains 'Schenkungen', but repetition can be avoided by phrasing it thus:
Non-exempt gifts are any that...
https://www.google.co.uk/search?q="non-exempt gift" inherita...
Canada: exempt gifts = tax-free gifts

In the UK: https://www.gov.uk/inheritance-tax/gifts

gifts inter vivos or lifetime gifts

"Context: swiss tax return"
For this reason, I wouldn't have thought that an executor's duties to collect debts (as linked in the DB) were relevant. This is about attempts by the deceased prior to death to decrease the size of the estate and therby the amount of inheritance tax owing on it.

: I don’t think you can assume 'non-exempt' but gifts inter vivos appears to be suitably generic term

Discussion
"Steuerbar sind insbesondere Schenkungen unter Lebenden,
Vorempfänge in Anrechnung an die künftige Erbschaft sowie Zuwendungen
zur Errichtung einer Stiftung und an eine bestehende
Stiftung."
https://www.steuern.sg.ch/home/common/bestellungen/unsere_ef...
Not sure applicable was the wrong word, though. I'm no expert in this field, which is why I put this all up in the discussion box. But the above seems to suggest to me that there are lifetime gifts that are not "Vorempfänge." Cf. https://www.erb-vorbezug.ch/elemente-des-erbvorbezugs/anrech...
In other words: I don't believe the answers aren't helpful or couldn't be used; in Allegro's words, I just don't know how "generic" the term's supposed to be. I seem to recall that you can prevent some gifts from counting toward the estate and a subsequent set-off. Even after taking a look, I am not sure how exactly your canton is taxing it.

Moreover, I don't think what has been posted is applicable here; it could be that this is an advance on an inheritance, but that would only be true if the person does inherit something and it would depend on how much they inherit (the value may exceed the portion this specific beneficiary is supposed to get later on).
"Ein Erbvorbezug nach Schweizer Recht ist eine lebzeitige Zuwendung eines Vermögenswertes an einen mutmasslichen zukünftigen Erben, mit Anrechnung auf dessen Erbteil.
"Der Erbvorbezug ist also ähnlich der Schenkung, mit dem Unterschied, dass der Erbvorbeziehende beim Ableben des Erblassers den Betrag zurückbezahlen muss, bzw. auf seinen Erbteil angerechnet bekommt."
