Hello proz:
I am proofreading a chemical patent involving hair colorants. This comes up in the examples section. They are giving examples of chemical compositions and they are are synthesized. I need help with the meaning of 62% der Theorie. I am assuming it means that they were able to obtain 62% of the amount that is was theoretically possible to obtain:
Text:
Proposed translation:
The yield was 2.0 g (0.071 oz) (62 % of the theoretical amount ) of 5-(2,2-dibromoethenyl)-2-nitrophenol obtained as a yellow powder.
Thanks in advance.

Comment: "Thank you to everyone. Probably all answers are ok; I am choosing this one because it came in fairly quickly and, from a linguistic perspective, is grammatically preferred."
2 mins
62 % of theory
Meaning 62 % of the calculated (theoretical) amount were obtained.

Of course, 62 % of the theoretical amount is also fine, simply saying of theory is more common.

Well, like I said the translation is fine, but I\'ve seen \"of theory\" more often than this and I\'ve done my share of translating chemical patents. Anyway, the translation is perfectly fine (lucky I was just answering on your other question or I wouldn\'t have seen your comment ;-))

62% of the theoretical yield.
We have theoretical and asctual yields.

Discussion
Yes, that is what I was trying to find out. Is it common in an English patent to say "62% of theory"? That sounds very awkward to me and I have never seen it before. I cannot find that type of wording in any other patents, but if others have seen it, that makes me feel a bit better.
Thanks.
