German term

Trefferliste

German to English Tech/Engineering Computers (general)
Über Anfang öffnen Sie die erste Seite der Trefferliste.

I do not think hit list or strike list does the trick.
Any suggestions?

Discussion

Steffen Walter Oct 17, 2005:
Only partially agree with Hilary - "hit list" is also used in an IT context, as shown below. However, to play it safe and to avoid any unwanted connotation, you might choose one of the other options.
Non-ProZ.com (asker) Oct 17, 2005:
When I first thought of hit list I immediately thought about a contract "hit man".

So this leaves me with results list or one the other kindly proposed answers.

Thank you all for your efforts.
Hilary Davies Shelby Oct 17, 2005:
Thanks for the context. Please don't use "hit list" - see my note to Steffen's answer - this refers to a list of people to be eliminated by a contract killer (and by extension, to things/persons to be got rid of!).
Non-ProZ.com (asker) Oct 17, 2005:
Apparently one opens a starting page, followed by a drop-down menu.
In this menu is a list of found items
So it could well be hit list or even one of the other proposed answers
Hilary Davies Shelby Oct 17, 2005:
Yes - please provide more context.
Steffen Walter Oct 17, 2005:
Care to provide more context as to what these Treffer are? Search results? Please quote at least the entire paragraph.

hit list / list of matches / (list of) search results / results list

These could all apply, depending on more info. Context is key here.

agree Hilary Davies Shelby : or list of matches - a "hit list" is usually (although we have no context) something else entirely! ;-)//I was thinking more along the lines of murder!! http://www.m-w.com/cgi-bin/dictionary?book=Dictionary&va=hit...

True - thinking of the greatest hits of the seventies, eighties ... ;-) / However, see "hit list" def @ http://www.utas.edu.au/library/etutor/main/webzglos.htm / Now I see where you're coming from - seems I have to get my lateral thinking going ;-)
agree BrigitteHilgner : "hit list" was my spontaneous idea, and since the asker has not provided any further information yet, I stick to it - although the other options seem suitable, too (depending on the context).

Exactly, which is why the ultimate choice still remains unclear.
