De verschillende korpsen hebben een grote autonomie, bijvoorbeeld op het gebied van informatievoorziening, waardoor gegevensuitwisseling vaak niet goed mogelijk is. Er wordt inmiddels wel samengewerkt aan een gemeenschappelijke ICT-infrastructuur, maar zolang de werkprocessen en de organisatie-inrichting niet tegelijkertijd worden aangepast, zal de nieuwe infrastructuur nauwelijks effect sorteren.

I understand that the Dutch police consists of 25 regional police forces and the National Police Services Agency (KLPD), but am having trouble interpreting this phrase. Integral part of the Dutch national police force? Any help appreciated.

neutral Harry Borsje : as a general comment to your comments on this page: maybe it's because we love to regard ourselves as merchants, but when the source uses 'concern' I think there is no doubt the author regards the police organisation as a business

Regarding it as a business, does not make it a business. Asker even uses the word service correctly in the KLPD English name - the irony is that it does not yet fully operate as a coordinating service, due to the independence level of the regional corps.

deze site (http://www.politie.nl/Overige/English/ met een slechte Engelse sectie) had je zo te zien al gevonden; het lijkt mij niet dat Politie Nederland een officiële term is, dus bovenstaande interpretatie lijkt me toegestaan

@all: ik 'mis' in de brontekst eigenlijk de toevoeging Politie Nederland *B.V.* (net zoals je spreekt over de B.V. Nederland als we het b.v. hebben over onze economie vs. lage-lonenlanden), vandaar dat ik deze vertaling zou kiezen; Corp. mag natuurlijk ook

agree Ken Cox : agree with the general tenor. 'Politie Nederland' is certainly not an official term, and the capitalisation in the source text gives it a special flavour, but not an 'Inc'. perhaps 'a business unit of the Dutch Police enterprise'.

I think this sentence requires rephrasing in English: The KLPD...... still operates as an independent unit within the Dutch police force.

houdt het redelijk neutraal. Force zou aan politie kunnen worden toegevoegd, is een zeer gebruikelijke term hier in de VS.
