Arabic term

غفلة الحق عنه

Arabic to English Art/Literary Religion sayings, maxims
إنما بقاء الباطل في غفلة الحق عنه, a saying by Mohammad Abduh. Is this English rendering of the above saying correct: VERILY, THE PERSISTENCE OF TRUTH LIES IN THE NEGLIGENCE OF ITS TRUE REALITY? Thank you to all helpful Prozians.

Discussion

Ludina Sallam Jul 31, 2017:
I understand what you mean, i.e.
"The persistence of that which is false and worthless lies in our indifference and heedlessness concerning its true nature."
I will leave the determination of which translation is correct to a native speaker!

Thank you for the explanation of both of you. They clarify and correct my own initial understanding about it. Initially, I think في غفلة الحق عنه means "lies in our heedlessness of the nature of it (it being the falsehood itself)". Do these two sentences إنما بقاء الباطل في غفلة الحق عنه and إنما بقاء الباطل في غفلتنا عن حقيقة الباطل نفسها same or different in meaning?

Thank you Ludina for spotting my error. You're correct. I incorrectly write "the persistence of TRUTH instead of the persistence of FALSEHOOD".

when the right is heedless

If your question is about غفلة الحق عن, then it is 'the truth is heedless from'; 'the truth is unaware of'.

If your question is about بقاء كذا إنما يكون في كذا, then:
في، حينما، طانما، إذا ما

إنما بقاء الباطل في غفلة الحق عنه، أي حين/طالما يكون الحق غافلاً عنه
- Falsehood but lasts for as long as the right remains heedless.
- Falsehood may last when the right remains heedless.
- Falsehood shall last if the right remained heedless.

(No need for verily)

being disregarded and ignored by the forces of truth

I do not think the translation above is correct.
Example sentence:

Rather, the survival of that which is false and worthless lies in its being disregarded and ignored by the forces of truth.

Note from asker:
Your way of putting it in English sounds natural as you are a native. Thank you Ludina.
