Hi,

Uploading XLIFF files back into XTM has become more problematic as of late, with XTM failing to import most of the files and not returning any helpful error message besides calling support.

Using XTM 8.5 release 45966 build 11/9/2014 (at client's) with Trados Studio 2014 SP1 11.1.4085.

Trados XLIFF file type config is set to preserve the original XLIFF as much as possible without adding any unnecessary tags. Side-by-side comparison between source and target XLIFFs doesn't show anything suspicious that would prevent XTM from importing the files correctly...

Is anybody else having the same issue?

Thanks,

Alright, found out what's going on. Apparently Trados randomly encodes XLIFF file to ANSI instead of the original UTF-8 encoding, and that throws XTM off. Does on certain files, not on others. Haven't found yet what's the trigger.

Solution: Once the XLIFF files have been finalized, open them with PSPad (www.pspad.com, freeware editor), change the encoding to UTF-8, save and voilà. XTM likes them again

XTM support is always there to help Nov 4, 2014

Hi Marc,

Sorry to hear you're experiencing issues with your files!

Your external tool should generate a file in exactly the same format as XLIFF generated in XTM, so it definitely should not change the encoding.

If you experience any issues uploading XLIFFs to XTM please don't hesitate to contact our friendly and quick-to-respond support team, as they will surely be able to solve your issue. Send us your server address, project name and attach the XLIFF yo

Thanks Nov 4, 2014

Thank you. Trados is definitely the culprit here. Support in Poland was able to point me in the right direction to further research the issue. All it took from there was to notice the encoding difference which had escaped me in the first place.
