Some, occasionally Feb 25, 2013

One bloke in particular always lets me know, but most of my clients don't usually bother. I'm rather lax about checking this kind of thing and sometimes I even forget to issue a bill in the first place! In fact, last month when revising my bills from last year due to a tax audit, I found I'd forgotten to bill 2 clients.

I also have a sneaking suspicion that the regional government may never have paid me for a job I did a year or two ago, and I keep meaning to check. I may have a loo

No, usually not Feb 25, 2013

Until now I have always been paid, but in more than 50% of cases I have to send a reminder, irritating!

Usually, just one! Feb 25, 2013

My only Japanese client always sends an email the day after the payment to let me know that it is on the way.

I have also received an email with apologies for a delay in payment from another customer, but this is a "once in a blue moon" type of thing...

They let "the system" do it Feb 25, 2013

Most of my clients enter my e-mail when there is the option for the payment system to advise me that the payment has been made.

PayPal (which I seldom use) does it automatically, because money is sent to an e-mail address.

Xoom offers the option to notify the payee by e-mail, and all my clients who use it select that option.

Some wire transfer users do e-mail me when they send one, most don't. However my bank automatically (because I've set it up that way)

Some wire transfer users do e-mail me when they send one, most don't. However my bank automatically (because I've set it up that way) notifies me via both SMS and e-mail of any incoming wire transfers, so I'll process the currency conversion online.

Local clients, when they do an online electronic bank transfer, use their bank's system to notify me by e-mail, or scan & e-mail the slip, if they used an ATM.

Nowadays it's pretty simple.

Not usually Feb 25, 2013

However, sometimes I do receive automatic notification from the client's internal system or from an external system [e.g. paypal] or similar.

Paypal Feb 25, 2013

I'm not super happy about the fees, but paypal lets me know when ever I get paid. One client sent me a check through a system I hadn't heard off before. They emailed me with the check info, as well as the expected delivery date, which was pretty nifty.

It seems to be country-specific in my case. Locals never do, but this is the norm. Whereas I almost always get notified from customers abroad.

No Feb 25, 2013

and I do not really see why they should. They generally only contact me after I have informed them that it has not been made.

some of them Feb 26, 2013

the ones who have an 'invoicing system' or pay via paypal. I have a few who are local/provincial, and most of them don't let me know. One of them did, always sent me an email notifying me that the check was in the mail. She's no longer a client, but mostly because of the type of work she does. Great client though and I always appreciate her courtesy. I usually thank my clients or acknowledge receipt, even if it's via paypal.
