Provided, you kick out the drama queens, male or female, early enough. Perfect teamwork in translation can be an experience that will blow your mind. Several Alpha animals work together without any attitude - because they are all Alphas who don't have prove themselves over and over. The result, based on true teamwork and utmost cooperation can be stunning.

I really would like to try. I did it one for a proofreading and I really appreciated.
Although I've only worked as part of a "distant" team, I presume that others will have had the experience in the flesh. The team I have worked with communicated by Skype, Messenger and e-mail. Very civilized procedure with constant standardizing of terminology, respect for others' opinions and good dialogue. I wonder if I have been exceedingly luck with this experience, though?

That is how I began meeting colleagues IRL, some years ago. Huge projects (the one we currently work on is 8,000 pages) are efficiently coordinated by one/several PM(s) who work(s) for an agency

I’ve worked with a few other translators on projects that I was asked to take on that involved languages other than Spanish/Catalan>English. I truly enjoyed working with them; they had great attitudes and a desire to do quality work. What I didn’t enjoy was the additional work involved for me, i.e. coordinating them, being the intermediary between them and the end client, correcting their texts and doing the work of a project manager (team leader) and translator at the same time.

I recently worked as part of a 15+ team of translators/editors on a huge catalog project. The PM was absolutely fantastic, all the other translators were very helpful and communicative... Although we were physically apart, the way communications were designed made me feel supported throughout. And I learned so much from everyone! I definitely look forward to working on a project like this again. Laureana

training my successor! | Feb 23, 2009 |
I answered "other" because I do occaionally collaborate with another translator on a big job, we decide certain terms together. Now my son is starting to work as a translator too, so I'm "training" him.... I pass him some of my jobs, especially if I have a lot in the queue, and let him do the "donkey work", then we finish them off together using Skype. So we have a family team......

more than once, great experience | Feb 23, 2009 |
I have worked as a part of a team many times. I have been a translator among translators, a quality checker or translator. Everytime it was a great experience, I have lerant a lot and I hope I have been of some help for my colleagues.

Most of the time it's great: a team of two, with many overlapping subject specialties and compatible philosophy, working on the same network with the same tools. It's especially nice when a quick "sanity check" is required for an icky bit of text and the team mate is a few meters away in the next office.
