Some uses of official documents and certificates require stamp duty some others don't. In your care it seems that the certificate issued by the notary requires "il bollo". See bottom of page 2 and top of page 3 of http://www.comune.livorno.it/pec/listacer.pdf .

The notarial record or instrument issued itsekf possibly need stamping. As a law clerk in London, I had to go to the *UK* Inland Revenue (now HMRC) Stamping Office to P/D - 'particulars disclosed' deeds like leases (50p stamp duty and assent forms (probate conveyances = 50p) - the PD process now still familiar in the Republic of Ireland.
