Jego namiętność była bezdenna

Między zapałką i patykiem?
Stało się i to całkiem dosłownie

Source text - English He proposed in the dunes,
they were wed by the sea,
Their nine-day-long honeymoon
was on the isle of Capri.
For their supper they had one specatular dish-
a simmering stew of mollusks and fish.
And while he savored the broth,
her bride's heart made a wish.
That wish came true-she gave birth to a baby.
But was this little one human
Well, maybe.
Ten fingers, ten toes,
he had plumbing and sight.
He could hear, he could feel,
but normal?
Not quite.
This unnatural birth, this canker, this blight,
was the start and the end and the sum of their plight.
She railed at the doctor:
"He cannot be mine.
He smells of the ocean, of seaweed and brine."
"You should count yourself lucky, for only last week,
I treated a girl with three ears and a beak.
That your son is half oyster
you cannot blame me.
... have you ever considered, by chance,
a small home by the sea?"
Not knowing what to name him,
they just called him Sam,
or sometimes,
"that thing that looks like a clam"
Everyone wondered, but no one could tell,
When would young Oyster Boy come out of his shell?
When the Thompson quadruplets espied him one day,
they called him a bivalve and ran quickly away.
One spring afternoon,
Sam was left in the rain.
At the southwestern corner of Seaview and Main,
he watched the rain water as it swirled
down the drain.
His mom on the freeway
in the breakdown lane
was pouding the dashboard-
she couldn't contain
the ever-rising grief,
frustration,
and pain.
"Really, sweetheart," she said
"I don't mean to make fun,
but something smells fishy
and I think it's our son.
I don't like to say this, but it must be said,
you're blaming our son for your problems in bed."
He tried salves, he tried ointments
that turned everything red.
He tried potions and lotions
and tincture of lead.
He ached and he itched and he twitched and he bled.
The doctor diagnosed,
"I can't quite be sure,
but the cause of the problem may also be the cure.
They say oysters improve your sexual powers.
Perhaps eating your son
would help you do it for hours!"
He came on tiptoe,
he came on the sly,
sweat on his forehead,
and on his lips-a lie.
"Son, are you happy? I don't mean to pry,
but do you dream of Heaven?
Have you ever wanted to die?
Sam blinked his eye twice.
but made no reply.
Dad fingered his knife and loosened his tie.
As he picked up his son,
Sam dripped on his coat.
With the shell to his lips,
Sam slipped down his throat.
They burried him quickly in the sand by the sea
-sighed a prayer, wept a tear-
and they were back home by three.
A cross of greay driftwood marked Oyster Boy's grave.
Words writ in the sand
promised Jesus would save.
But his memory was lost with one high-tide wave.

Oświadczył jej się na wydmach,
ślub wzięli nad morzem.
Spędzili dziewięciodniowy miodowy miesiąc
na wyspie Capri, we Włoszech.
Na kolację mieli spektakularną potrawę -
duszony gulasz z mięczakami i rybną strawę.
A gdy on rozkoszował się rosołem,
serce panny młodej zażyczyło coś sobie.
Ona dziecko na świat wydała i jej życzenie się spełniło.
Ale czy było to ludzkie dziecko?
Hmm, nikt naprawdę nie wie, czy było.
Dziesięć palców u rąk, tyleż samo u nóg,
miał układ odbytniczy i wszystko dostrzegał.
Mógł słyszeć i czuć.
Ale czy był normalny?
Chyba odbiegał.
Te nienaturalne narodziny, ten nowotwór, ta plaga
była początkiem i końcem oraz istotą ich zmagań.
Matka uskarżała się lekarzowi:
“On nie może być moim dzieckiem.
On śmierdzi oceanem, solanką i morskim zielskiem”.
Jesteś szczęściarą, bo przed kilkoma dniami
była tu dziewczyna z dziobem i trzema uszami.
Za to, że twój syn jest do połowy ostrygą
obwinianie mnie nic nie pomoże.
….czy przypadkiem nie rozważałaś kiedykolwiek
małego domku nad morzem?
Nie wiedząc jak dać mu na imię,
nazwali go Sammie,
albo “to coś, co wygląda jak mięczak”
wołali nań czasami.
Każdy się zastanawiał, ale nikt nie mógł powiedzieć
kiedy mały Chłopiec Ostryga przestanie w swej muszli siedzieć.
A gdy czworaczki Thompsonowie ujrzały go pewnego dnia,
nazwały go małżą i uciekły raz dwa.
Pewnego wiosennego popołudnia
Sammie został pozostawiony na deszczu (ang.’in the rain’)
W południowozachodnim krańcu Seaview i Main,
obserwował deszczówkę
wsysaną przez ściek.
Jego matka na autostradzie,
zjechawszy na skraj drogi,
tłukła pięścią w deskę rozdzielczą -
nie mogąc powstrzymać
wciąż rosnącej frustracji,
bólu i trwogi.
“Naprawdę skarbie” - rzekła
“Ja nie żartuję,
ale coś tu zalatuje rybą
i to jest nasz syn, tak czuję.
I niechętnie to mówię, ale to musi być powiedziane,
obwiniasz naszego syna za twoje problemy sypialniane.”
Ojciec próbował balsamów, próbował też maści
rozgrzewające wszystko do czerwoności.
Próbował eliksiry i mikstury
oraz nalewkę z ołowiu.
Miał drgawki, coś go swędziało, krwawił i coś go bolało.
Lekarz wydał diagnozę,
„Sam nie do końca zgadzam się ze swoim zdaniem,
ale przyczyna tego problemu może być też jego rozwiązaniem.
Nie jest tajemnicą, że ostrygi podnoszą wydolność seksualną.
Być może zjedzenie własnego syna,
pozwoli ci kończyć po kilku godzinach!”
Ojciec przyszedł na paluszkach,
przyszedł niepostrzeżenie,
ze spoconym czołem
i z szelmowskim spojrzeniem.
“Synu czy jesteś szczęśliwy? Nie chcę się wtrącać,
ale czy ty marzysz o Niebiosach?
Czy kiedykolwiek chciałeś się tam dostać?
Sammie mrugnął swym okiem dwukrotnie
lecz nie zripostował.
Ojciec dotknął palcami noża i swój krawat poluzował.
A gdy uniósł syna do góry,
Sammie zachlapał mu rękaw płaszcza.
Ojciec zbliżył muszlę do ust
i pochłonęła syna ojcowska paszcza.
Pochowali go szybko w piasku na plaży,
pomodlili się wzdychając, wytarli łzy,
byli w domu zanim mała wskazówka stanęła na “trzy.”
Krzyż z dryfującej gałęzi oznaczył grób ich syna.
Słowa napisane na piasku
mówiły, że Jezus wszystkich ocala.
Ale pamięć o Chłopcu Ostrydze zabrała jedna przypływu fala.

Source text - English One day in the park
I had quite a surprise.
I met a girl
who had many eyes.
She was really quite pretty
(and also quite shocking!)
and I noticed she had a mouth,
so we ended up talking.
We talked about flowers,
and her poetry classes,
and the problems she'd have
if she ever wore glasses.
It's great to know a girl
who has so many eyes,
but you really get wet
when she breaks down and cries.
Translation - Polish DZIEWCZYNA Z WIELOMA OCZAMI
Pewnego dnia w parku
myślałem że śnię.
Spotkałem dziewczę o wielu oczach,
patrzącą na mnie się.
Była naprawdę całkiem ładna
( i całkiem wstrząsająca także!)
ponadto zauważyłem, że ma usta
więc mogliśmy pogadać, a jakże.
Rozmawialiśmy o kwiatach,
o lekcjach poezji pobieraniu
i o problemach jakie miałaby
w okularów dobieraniu.
Wspaniale jest znać dziewczynę
z tak wieloma oczami
ale nie zostanie na tobie suchej nitki
gdy ta załamie się i zaleje sie łzami.
